We built the background remover we wanted to use
RemoveBkgd started with a simple frustration: the fastest way to cut out an image wanted a subscription, and it wanted to send the image to someone else’s computer. Neither felt necessary in a world where browsers can run real AI.
Every background remover makes a trade-off. Desktop software trades convenience for control. Cloud services trade privacy and price for speed. We wanted all three: the convenience of a website, the control of a desktop editor and the privacy of software that never phones home. Modern browser technology finally made that possible, so we built RemoveBkgd around it.
The entire product is one idea taken seriously: move the computation to the user. Once the AI model runs in the browser, the per-image server cost that forces other tools to charge simply disappears — and so does the reason to upload your images in the first place. Free and private stop being competing goals and become the same design decision.
We think that matters beyond convenience. Photographers protect client work. Sellers protect unreleased products. Designers protect NDA mockups. A tool that keeps those files on the device is not just cheaper — it is safer. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
What we stand for
Free should mean free
No credits, no tokens, no "HD is a paid feature". If we can run the model on your device, we can afford to give you the full-resolution file every time.
Privacy by architecture
We did not add a privacy toggle — we removed the upload step. Your images never reach us, so there is nothing to leak, sell or store.
Respect for your time

Honest engineering
